Truth or Dare

After catching up on some blogs this weekend, I have seen the dare, and commitment to blog twice daily, and all of that, and I am willing to take on this challenge as well.  As you might know, I haven't posted in umm...2 weeks.  Oops!  I have been doing great with the healthy lifestyle, and staying on plan, but I haven't been here to blog.  I think this is an important part of my journey though, coming here, and venting my frustrations, celebrating my victories, and just documenting my progress.  I do need to be here.  I do need the accountability, and the support, so I am taking on this dare as well, but a few days late.  LOL  Better late then never right?  I'm not sure how much I can possibly say, or that it will be very interesting, but I'm willing to do it for me.

On to weigh in news, last week I lost 2 pounds, and then this week I lost another 3, for a total of 19 pounds!   Even though the scale tells me this, I still have a hard time believing it.  I find myself questioning it, or thinking that maybe it was just a trick that the scale was playing on me.  I play these games where I get on the scale multiple times just to see if it's right.  I imagine the scale talking back "oh snap you actually believed that loss before?  I was kidding."  It's all so mental, and I'm not sure at what point I'm actually going to be able to just believe it.  My husband took measurements again, and I lost another inch in both arms, and .5 inches around my middle.  I am so excited that I am actually seeing progress.  I can do this!  This week I am going to make sure I have an amazing week, by staying very focused.  I will be here too, posting, to try to work on the  mental stuff.  LOL  I hope everyone else has a great week too!

Just call me Chamillionaire...

because yesterday I was "riding dirty"  LOL  Actually there isn't much, LOL, about it.  So yesterday my husband, bff, and I hit the trails for a bike ride on a nice cool fall like Saturday afternoon.  When I say hit the trails, I mean that literally...at least for me.  It had been raining a few hours before, so things were a bit damp, but the rain was supposed to hold out for a few hours.  We did 5.5 miles, and then started on our second  loop of the track,  and all of a sudden my bff stopped in front of me, there was a bridge up ahead that apparently bikes weren't supposed to cross, so she stopped, and I slammed on my brakes and lost control.  My bike slid across the wet trail, and i went flying.  I hit the ground shoulder first, then my knees, and my leg was pushed against and landed on the handlebars.  I landed in a bunch of much, lol the riding dirty part.  LOL  The most embarrassing part was that the trails were pretty empty, but when I fell of course i did in front of a few spectators.  Just my luck.  I was completely mortified and in lots of pain.  I could have stopped and turned around and went back, but I painfully hopped on my bike, and finished the additional 5.5 miles.  It wasn't pretty, and I only averaged like 9 .5 mph, but I did it.  We did just over 11 miles total.

I didn't fully realize how much pain I was in until I carefully made my way into the car.  I couldn't really move.  My left leg is bruised and cut from my kneecap all of the way up my thigh, huge bruise and cuts might I add.  My arms are bruised and cut.  My back hurts, legs, arms, ankles and well everything else hurts too.  I feel like I have been hit by a truck.  I will heal though.  I know it was just a freak accident, and I am kind of proud of myself for not giving up.

Number games

My cat Belle, playing with the tape measure

I know that I have been away for a few days...errr....maybe a week, but not because I lost focus.  The long weekend has been oh so nice and relaxing, and provided me with a much needed break from work.  So you know how I have been going on and on whining about how the I'm not losing as fast as I want to?  Well, I had my husband take my measurements 2 weeks ago, so I could keep track of it that way too.  He made some fancy spreadsheet, which is the anal engineer in him, and measured away.

Well Saturday was the check in day to see if I lost anything, and to be honest, I wasn't really expecting much, especially since the scale hadn't been moving that much.  I couldn't believe the results.  I thought maybe it was accurate, or that he measured in the wrong place, but he was so exact with his measurements, anal engineer, remember? LOL  It turns out in two weeks I have lost 1 inch on EACH of my upper arms, 2.5 inches on EACH thigh, and nothing around the midsection...boo that's where I need it most.  We are adding measurements to the chart, but for now he only took measurements of my upper arms, thighs, and waist, or lack thereof.  So overall I as pleased, although I do wish I could lost in my stomach.  LOL  So we will see how my next measurement session goes on the 18th.

In other numbers, I weighed in yesterday, and I lost 3 more pounds!  This hard work is paying off slowly, but surely!  This weekend has overall been wonderful.  We did a nine mile bike ride on Saturday, and an 11 mile bike ride yesterday.  I wanted to do another one today, but we were pretty tired from the whole weekend, that we agreed to take a day off of the trails.  I really love riding, it is so much fun, and a great workout.  I can definitely feel it in my legs.

I hope everyone had a fabulous long weekend and I wish you all a great week ahead!

I was tagged by Katie from www.katie-fttw.blogspot.com, and here are my answers!  I love these question games!

#1. What is your favorite color?  Pink, of course!  LOL
#2. What is your favorite thing about bloggin?  I am very new to this, but I love the accountability, and for some reason it just feels therapeutic.   It's also very motivational to read about other people's journeys.
#3. What is the single best moment of your life thus far?  Tough, but great question that I'm not even sure I can answer.  I suppose the best moment of my life would be the day that I married my best friend ,or maybe the day I met him.  LOL
#4. What would you buy first if you won a million dollars?   My indecisive nature is really showing, because I have no idea.  LOL  I mean maybe I would buy a plane ticket to a tropical destination, my fav, so I could think about all of the things that I am going to spend/save the money on.  I could use a nice relaxing vacation anyway.  :)
#5. Where would you live if you could live anywhere?  Bora Bora lol
#6. What is your dream job?  A tropical resort reviewer.  LOL  I will go around to the best of the best tropical resorts and review their amenities, and spa services.  Tough job I know, but someone has to do it.

#8. Do you like cheese? (just to be silly)  No, I know I'm a freak.  LOL

Push it, ahh, Push it real good!

Love Salt and Peppa!  Well tonight, I was still feeling the burn from my 11 mile bike ride from Saturday, yep STILL feeling it.  Even though i can do 2 hours straight on the elliptical, I think my body has somewhat gotten used to it, so I can REALLY feel the burn with the bike riding.  Every muscle in my body still hurts, even my ankles, yes my ankles.  LOL  It is a good hurt though.  I know I really pushed myself, and I feel great because of it.

Today, I was able to eat very healthy, and was satisfied, but I totally didn't feel like working out.  I relaxed for a few when I got home from work, but told myself that I absolutely had to workout tonight.  There was no talking myself out of it, even though I didn't feel like doing it. I don't wake up in the morning and say "You know, I really don't feel like brushing my teeth, I'm too tired."  I JUST DO IT.  There isn't even a question, it's just routine.  So why can't I have the same approach to my workouts?  So, I put on my workout gear, and headed downstairs and did 30 minutes of strength training, and then hopped on the elliptical and did another 30 minutes.  I mean 30 minutes isn't great, but it's 30 minutes, so I am proud of myself.  I feel so good right now rocking this post workout high.  I wish I could bottle up this feeling, and feel just a smidge of it when I don't feel like working out.

As far as the weigh in results, I didn't lose or gain anything last week.  I stayed the same, and you know what that is ok.  I have been so frustrated over numbers, but I know I just have to focus on the journey itself, and all of the steps I'm taking along the way.  Just control what I can control, and eventually the numbers will follow suit and things will fall into place.  I am going to try my hardest to not peak at the scale until weigh in day on Sunday, because I don't want a bad number to bring down my mood.  I am challenging myself to not even take so much as a peak until Sunday morning.

I hope everyone has had a fantastic day!  You are all so inspiring, and love reading about all of your triumphs!  I can relate to everyone's struggles.  I might not be able to comment that much, while I'm working, but I am reading, and I will comment as much as I can.  Thank you so much for sharing your journey with me.

The 11th mile

So today was the big day of our first bike ride at the forest preserves.  I was super nervous, because I was going with my super fit bff, her fiance, and my husband.  I was so worried that I would hold them back, and worried that I might not be able to keep up.  Keep in mind that I haven't ridden a bike in about 15years, and this was our first real ride.  We went to a forest preserve by our place, and the trail was 5.5 miles, which sounded a bit scary.  LOL

We headed out on the trail midday, and today might not have been the best day for a ride.  I mean don't get me wrong, it was beautiful, nice and sunny, however it was 90+ degrees and humid.  So we started riding, and the hot sun was beating down on me in my BLACK shirt, and dark gray yoga pants, hey no one said I was smart.  Also, keep in mind that my complexion matches that of Casper's, and silly old me forgot to put on the sunblock.  So, it was really hot, and we were riding along the trail, and I was doing ok, and then all of a sudden my right pedal fell off.  I was totally mortified, and then my friends and my husband kept asking if I was ok.  I was so hot by then, and after walking my bike a little ways, I started having an anxiety attack.  I just felt so stupid, and was totally down on myself.  I thought I broke the pedal because I was fat.  So we got back to their place, I was dying at this point, and headed out to the bike shop to get it fixed.  I was so embarrassed, and I refused to go in.  I was actually crying.  I know, that sounds ridiculous, but I just got so down on myself.  He took the bike in the shop, and it turns out, just as my husband said, it had nothing to do with my weight, the brake just wasn't tightened.  The guy at the shop apologized, and said it was their fault.  So we got the bike fixed, and headed back out for the trails.

I was so scared that it was going to happen again, but I told myself that I could do it.  I was so tired, but I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.  I wanted to push myself.  We biked around that trail, and when we finished, I have to admit that I felt awesome that I accomplished that.  I mean the first real bike ride in 15 years, and I went 11 miles in the heat, so I guess I am pretty impressed with that.  I know it's nothing special, but it's something.  Not only did I do it, but I pushed myself, and faced my fears.  It turns out I can handle more than I give myself credit for.  I am so tired and worn out now, but pumped at the same time.

Tomorrow afternoon we are going to go to a different trail to try that out, and I am excited.  I am so tired after that, so I believe that it's bedtime for me.  Fabulous bike ride # 1 completed!  Tomorrow is the big weigh in day, although truthfully, I am not getting my hopes up.  This morning I was only down one pound, and I have a feeling that I am retaining a ton of water.  Either way I will post the results, and hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.  I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hump Day

I am going to make this REALLY REALLY short, because I am totally exhausted. Work has been crazy busy, and stressful, but I am staying on plan, no excuses. Stress is not a reason for poor choices, because I know it will only make me feel worse about myself. I am so proud of myself that I have remained focused and dedicated amongst the chaos. I know a whole 4 weeks doesn't seem like much to stay motivated on plan, but it is to me, and it's a huge step. I am doing this. I didn't get a chance to workout today, bummer, BUT tomorrow I plan on doing the elliptical, weights, AND riding my bike. My body is going to love and hate me on Friday, but it will be totally worth it.

I am so glad tomorrow is Thursday, because that is the last day of my work week, yay! I plan on lots of cardio this weekend, and I absolutely can't wait to weigh in! I have actually kept my word and have not even peaked at the numbers this week. I want to see a big number, and I can't wait to post the results either way. I hope everyone had a fabulous day!
